Viv Ayiti Pou Toutan (Long Live Haiti Forever)

People gathered for a national day of mourning, Feb12, 2010
It has been just over a year since the horrible earthquake shook the earth in Port-au-Prince, Haiti.  With buildings crumbling all around many thought that it was the end of the world.  A *video was posted on my Facebook wall
this afternoon that tells the story of the Utah Hospital Task Force.  This group of 125 volunteers (67 medical professionals, 34 construction specialists, and 71 interpreters) was the first non-military group to help relieve the suffering of the Haitian people last year.  As I viewed the video I was reminded of how lucky I am, of how we all are.  I know that we all go through hard times, but it is evidenced that there is always someone who has it harder than you and me.

This morning I became acquainted with **Sweat Tears or The Sea, a blog that was referred to on Facebook by c jane enjoy it.  The article is about being single and Mormon which has nothing to do with the disaster in Haiti, but she said something that applies...
"The truth is we all have hard things we have to live through, suffer through and/or overcome.
The whole point of life is to have experiences specifically designed to bring us closer to God--and to become like God. Sometimes the experiences are happy. Sometimes they are really difficult. Really difficult. Sometimes the difficult things last our whole entire lives. But, the design is the same for both kinds. Isn't that a relief?! Isn't that joyous? We can't lose! No one loses! Yay! We all get to be acquainted with God (if we want)! It's so hard! It's really really hard! And so fun!"
I am sure the people of Haiti will recover eventually and I pray that they will turn their heads to God and pray that they will make it through their difficulties.  Let us remember the Savior -who suffered, bled, and died for us that we may be free not only from sin and death but also our own sufferings.

I like that quote. It rings true to me. I especially like the fun part. What a cool thought.
