A few days ago, I was on my way to pick my boys up from school. When I was about a mile and a half from their school, I ran over something. I didn't know what it was at the time, but I knew it was bad. After the boys were in the car and we were about half way home, I started hearing a strange noise. At first I thought it was coming from the car next to me, but it wasn't. I rolled my window down but that didn't help me figure out what that noise was when suddenly, my tire warning light flashed on and I knew then that I had a flat tire. Just my luck! Fortunately, I was able to find a parking lot to safely pull into.
I called My Man to let him know what was going on and he immediately started brain storming, trying to figure out a way to help me, feeling frustrated that he couldn't be there to help.
It is not fun to have any kind of car trouble, especially a flat, and with kids in the car. Ethan was awesome. He took charge and grabbed the owners manual and started to read the steps of changing a tire. He was able to teach me how to lower the spare from under the car because I had no idea how to do it! While we were in the process of freeing the puny tire, a man pulled up and asked me if I could use some help.
"YES!"
I have only changed one tire in my life and that was a very long time ago when I was a teenager. I'm sure I could have changed the tire myself, but it would have taken me a really long time! This stranger came as a blessing, but I feel foolish, now, that I didn't remember to say a prayer and ask the Lord for help when our troubles first started. I am thankful the Lord sent someone to help me and my family in our time of need.
My boys and I surrounded the kind man when he finished with the tire. Ethan helped him put the spare tire wire back into place, Joshua handed his tools to him, and I gave him wet wipes so he could clean his hands. We said our thank you's and he was gone.
It turns out the "thing" I drove over was a box of nails and one of them shot into the side of my tire ripping a hole in it. This is what was pulled out.
Had to buy a new tire.
My point? Humanity is not dead. People do care about each other. We are not as selfish as our cynical minds might want to tell us. The bad in the world seems to make an unabiding presence, but the kindnesses shown stand as beacons of light shining hope to those in need. Let us remember to get on our knees and thank our Father in Heaven for the blessings we have, for the kindnesses shown, and for help received. I know that we are never alone and are never forgotten children of a loving and kind God!
